Cycling 5

hello again, as we continue merrily zig zagging across europe, we find ourselves in sunny Brno, which as you may know is in the Czech republic.

we had a very relaxing time in wroclaw, checking out the buskers in the main square, and we even went to the cinema. when headed out from there towards prague, which involved us going over a big mountain range known locally as the tatras, and it turned out to be 33 odd degrees, and we couldn't find a campsite and ended up going 81 miles and then we couldn't find any food, so we ended up having beer instead which by the waz costs 24p a pint here. yes that's right, so the temptation is very high. so within 2 days we were knackered again.

people seem to speak more english here in czech, so its not been so difficult ordering food and the like. tom's wheel buckled and he ended up getting 2 new wheels. as of yet my bike is totally intact, fingers crossed. we camped outside prague for a couple of days, and there are so many americans in prague you couldn't believe it. it was very very pretty and we went out in a pedal boat on the river , like we don't do enough pedalling already.

the campsites have been like butlins with stacks of pissed up czechs drinking beer from 9am and lighting campfires all over the place. not exactly peace and tranquility. after prague we made for brno, which you may realise is another zig zag, but anyway we stopped a couple of times on the way, once to see a church which was decorated with over 40000 bones, some guy had spent years putting them there, the place was full of skulls it was ace. we also stopped to do a bit of a cave tour, where you go in a boat down an underground river.

we are aiming for just south of vienna to see the eclipse hopefully on august 11th, we were going to be a litle early so we started sightseeing. we met a couple of kiwi cyclists who had cycled from london as well, but they took the sensible direct route through holland and germany. we went out and had some beers with them last night, and talked 'cycle touring' talk. we've got 2 days here then its on to brattislava in slovakia and then vienna hopefully.

things going fine but we always seem to be tired, no surprise i guess. our statistical expert , which is me by the waz, says that we are on day number 54, and have cycled 2188 miles and slept in the tent 37 times. we celebrated my 24th birthday, with a couple of beers from a petrol station just outside prague, and then toms wheel broke. oh well. hope things are fine wherever you may be, take it easy paul
